HSBC Business Person of the Year was presented  to Grant McIntosh of McIntosh Timber Laminates. As MD, Grant has led this local company to many successes, both in technical innovations in their Glue Laminated Timber market segment and also their quite remarkable design/supply export sales.  As well as being MD, Grant is responsible for sales in the Pacific Islands and carries on a proud family business started by his grandfather in the 1930s and continued by his father Ken.

The Howick Community Board Citizen of the Year award was presented to Shona Pickup. Shona has been very active with fundraising for the South Auckland Hospice where she is an active voluntary worker. She is the area coordinator for the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer fund-raising campaign. Shona has also participated in the Variety Club Gold Heart collection and has also organised auctions for both Star of the Sea and Sacred Heart

Employee of the Year award was presented to David Mason. Dave is head of Outdoor Education at Howick College. Dave’s extraordinary commitment of time and personal resources ensures students have the maximum opportunity to
experience a natural environment. Most of the field trips are supplementary to coursework and take place in the weekend or  during school holidays – a total of 35 trips last year when there are only 40 weeks in the school year! These trips include rock climbing in the South Island, tramping around Mt Taranaki, mountain-biking in Rotorua, canoeing and caving. At a time when many youths are engaged in

Monterey Arts, Arts Administrator of the Year award was presented to Gair McRae. Gair is acknowledged for the outstanding contribution that she has made to the local community for many years. Gair established the children’s theatre and has worked for over 25 years to realise the primary aim of          
Howick Children’s and Youth Theatre ‘HCYT’ which is: ‘To provide a useful and rewarding activity for young people  throughcontinued emphasis on social and creative drama, develop in students improved self-confidence, skill in communication, tolerance and a sense of community.’
The Howick Rotary Young Person of the Year award was presented to Nathanael Gray, from Macleans College. Nathanael is an exceptional student and a young man of excellent character. In his time at Macleans College, he has contributed widely to school life and is a fine role model for his peers. He has achieved High Distinction awards in a number of

Australasian competitions in English, Mathematics and Computing and achieved high marks for the International Cambridge exams last year. Nathanael also shows a high level of leadership He is a school prefect, the Rutherford House Cultural Captain, leader of the German Club and is in charge of setting up, developing and maintaining the Rutherford House website. In the cultural area, Nathanael has many gifts. He is a very talented debater, having been selected for the National Debating competition which his team  won, he is also the reserve for the national team competing in Wales in July.  He plays clarinet in the Senior Concert band and is their leader this year. The band won a gold award at the KBB Music Festival. He is a member of the Stage Band and has sung for the Barbershop Boys’ Chorus He has acted in a number of school productions, often in a leading role and this year received an acting award at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Regional Festival for his role as King Lear.He is currently working towards his silver Duke of Edinburgh award, which includes community service, and undertaking a range of personal challenges.
far less constructive activities, Dave is providing a healthy outlet for groups of 20-30 students each weekend for much of the year. This has a positive effect that reaches far into the community.
