President's Message

On 10 February members were welcomed to the club along with Dr Mels Barton who presented to us after dinner.

 

It was my pleasure to announce that Madeleine has agreed to be our President Elect. Thank you Madelaine for offering to step forward again. Your committment to the club is greatly appreciated.

 

After dinner we heard from Dr Mels Barton about Kauri Dieback and her organisation’s efforts to record the extent of the problem and the measures that they are taking to slow the spread of it. It was particularly interesting to hear that there are steps that can be taken to save infected tress and that surveys over a period of time have shown that the spread has been somewhat contained. All of this work takes time and money and much of the work is completed by a small group with less than optimal funding. Members were impressed with the work done and were better informed about a topic that most of us had heard about but didn’t really understand.

 

Have a Go raffles were drawn with Garry Donoghue 1st and John Richardson 2nd.

 

New World vouchers went to Alison Kearney and Colin Monk.

 

The usual round of fines were imposed to end the meeting.

 

Our next meeting on Tuesday 24 February and District Govenor Kirsten Hawke will be our feature speaker.
