 President's Message

Greetings everyone

Another good meeting with Rod Smith delivering a very enjoyable and informative talk about Guinness the drink, the Guinness family and where the Guinness business is at today, and congratulations to Jim Duckworth the winner of Rods book “Guinness Down Under”.

This Sunday is the Brit and Euro Car Show at Lloyd Ellsmore park and we (our Club) are involved with the BBQ and directing traffic for parking. I know that Geoff Thompson would like help in handing out leaflets about our club to the public so if you haven’t already volunteered to help and can do so please give Geoff a call.

Pat and I are away on holiday for a couple of weeks and Geoff has very kindly agreed to cover for me when and if required.

We picked up a really, really, really cheap all in holiday package in China, only joking, we will be in sunny Fiji. But be assured we will be thinking of you all as we sit around the pool sipping our cocktails.
So continue to enjoy our lovely summer, pray for rain at nights and we will see you when we get back.

Friends of Mangemangeroa - Issue: January 2020
Mangemangeroa Reserve
Our club supports our community in many ways and Mangemangeroa is an outstanding example of what can be achieved through the vision of dedicated citizens with support from our community including Howick Rotary Club. Friends of Mangemangeroa and our council continue to do develop this wonderful restoration and reforestation of the land on the Howick side of the gorge from Sandspit Road all the way to Haley Lane. Allan Riley and Jim Duckworth have played a major role for many years and deserve a huge thanks from us all for their dedication and commitment. The late Stuart Armstrong also played a role as treasurer and auditor of Friends of Mangemangeroa. Our clubs involvement includes the annual planting days. Here is their newsletter.
Dinner and a Laugh Fundraiser
Sowers is holding a Dinner and a Laugh fundraiser which will be hosted by Basalt on Wednesday 18th March. It is basically dinner and first drink included plus entertainment which is two comedians.  People interested book through Basalt website https://joylab.co.nz/basalt/dinner-and-a-laugh.  There will hopefully be a raffle on the night also.

Brit and Euro Car Show
Coming up this Sunday on March 1st. Geoff Thompson called for and received many names for people to volunteer either as car marshals, membership promotion and Gavin Green with sausage sizzle. Don’t forget to come along to a fantastic event that has over 1100 cars on display!

RYLA
The club is now looking for candidates for this years Rotary Young Person Awards course. Please contact Rob Mouncey rob.mary@xtra.co.nz or call 021 413341.

Howick Fun Walk Run
This is a major project for our club and is on Sunday 15th March. We need everybody and hopefully assistance from families to help out with a range of tasks including preparation, set up and pull down, plus marshalling, recording, sausage sizzle and more.
Contact John Osborne to agree your role. This is our opportunity to show our community how we make Howick a better place and to give them an opportunity to find out about Rotary.
