On Tuesday this week members were treated to one of those “This is why we do what we do” evenings. Our guest speaker was Bailee Ryan who was sponsored by our club to go on the Spirit of Adventure. Just getting there was a mission. Bailee was injured after the club agreed to support her application 2 years ago and due to health problems was unable to go until March this year. It was worth the wait to hear all about her experience and how it has opened her eyes to what she might be in the future. She was well supported by her Mum and Dad, Toni and John, with two very enthusiastic and proud grandparents in Sue and Garry Wilcox. When I see the results of the youth projects that we support, just like we all did on Tuesday, through Bailee I know we are making a difference in our community. Bailee’s very comprehensive presentation can be viewed here.
A big thanks on behalf of the club to Rob Mouncey for organising a visit to F&P Healthcare next Tuesday. It is around 10 years since our last visit and they have grown enormously since.
New members is a key objective for the balance of this year. Separately in this bulletin there are details of our next meeting 14th May which is everyone’s opportunity to invite and bring prospective members. We have all worked hard for our club and our community, some of us for many years. Please make a special effort to bring someone along who can continue to make a difference when you no longer can. Think about it if 30 members each brought a visitor and 15 joined our club what a difference we could make.
Today, ANZAC Day, Jim Duckworth and I had the privilege to lay a wreath at the Howick memorial on Stockade Hill on your behalf. It was a solemn occasion as befits such a special commemoration with a great turnout despite the restrictions on the parade. Thank you to those who participated.
There is a lot of Rotary information in this bulletin so please make a point of reading on there may be something that you would like to be involved in.
