With Mike and Pat Abercrombie away, Madeleine stepped in to the Sergeant’s role for the
evening.
Aside from regular members we welcomed Meryl Monk and Helen Donaghue as well as our guest speakers Tim Pan and Lysandra Zheng from the Howick Bridge Club.
Thanks were given to those who assisted with the bbq at the Brit/Euro car show. It was a
busy day and a good amount was raised for the club.
The Fun Walk and Run committee has
been working hard and the work of all ofour committees was also noted.
Lastly we wish the “Bangers to Bluff” team good luck. The club is sponsoring the car to the value of $2,000
which goes to the Multiple Sclerosis charity.
One minute speakers included Malcolm who spoke to the Fun Run on 22 March and the list
of major sponsors were noted, including Fremasons, RSA Howick, Chiang Mai Trust, Howick
Local Board, PB Tech and Mitre10. We are grateful to all of these donors and the many others which include a number of local businesses who have given vouchers for spot prizes on the day.
Geoff and David attended a District Membership forum and shared feedback on some of the ideas presented.
Lastly we heard from Rob about Foundation giving and the opportunity to participate in the Have a Go raffle.
Colin Monk introduced Tim and Lysandra who attended the World Bridge Team Championships as a mixed team in Denmark last year with some financial assistance from the club. They are in their 20’s and are very passionate about the game of Bridge. Both were grateful for the experience in being able to attend the champs and for the assistance given. The team placed
in the middle of the pack and gained valuable experience for future competitions.
Tim is a teacher at MacLeans College where he runs an extra curricular club for students wanting to learn. This is how he got in to the game and he is keen to help a new generation.
Lysandra is a Bridge Director who’s role is to ensure that the laws are followed and to resolve any disputes. It is great to see them both giving back to the game.
Have a Go raffles were drawn with Mike Abercrombie 1st and Gavin Green 2nd.
New World vouchers went to Madeleine East and David Owen.
A spirited round of fines followed with, most if not all of us, falling victim. Thanks Madeleine for stepping in to the Sergeant’s role for the night.
I am unable to attend our next meeting on Tuesday 24 March. President Elect, Madeleine will fill in for me and we will host Rylee Barrett who attended the Rotary National Science & Technology Forum. Rylee is looking forward to telling us about her very enjoyable
experience.
I am disappointed not to be able to be there.
I am sure it will be a great evening.
