What a great night we had at the Coastguard Thank You BBQ last Tuesday.
The weather was kind and a lot of members took advantage of the Coastguard offer of a trip out in the rescue craft before the BBQ with everyone being well equipped with safety equipment and communication head pieces. There was also some amusing confusion with some members in getting the life jacket harness between their legs!
Coastguard had planned the evening to thank all those organizations that help them during the year. This included ourselves, the 2 local Lions clubs, Howick Village Association and Freemason’s (with yours truly speaking on their behalf). It was really good to see how all the community groups get together and help Howick’s Volunteer Coastguard do the incredible job that they do.
I took the opportunity when it was our turn to respond to the thank you from President Blair Telfer to in turn thank Coastguard members for helping on 2 of our major projects the Howick fun Walk & Run and Bookarama.
Also in operation was the new launching tractor that they had purchased. A big beast of a machine that makes the job of launching and storing the rescue craft a lot easier and safer.
In addition to the general thank you Howick Rotary was singled out for an Award (see later) in recognition of the support that we had provided in the commissioning of the new tractor in December 2024. Keep a watch out for the Award at future meetings as it will be on display.
All in all, a wonderful community evening clearly demonstrating how organizations working together in our area make Howick a great place to work and live.
There has been a change of guest speaker at our next meeting on the 11th March. We have swopped around Tom Willets from AT and Bill Charkow. Bill will be talking about the changes that have been made at District 9920 level relating to the RYLA and Youth programmes.
Take Care and Stay Well,
