It was great to welcome so many members and their partners for our Charter Night.
This year we celebrated 65 years of the Rotary Club of Howick.
Sixty-five years is a remarkable milestone, and it's a perfect time to reflect on our long and successful history. The Rotary Club of Howick is strong, with well-established fundraising and community projects. It's through the tireless efforts of our members that we are able to assist so many organizations and individuals.
This is an achievement we can all be proud of.
Steve Lines was our MC for the evening and Pat Abercrombie was called up for a “name that tune” quiz which was a bit of fun. Bill Charkow was the winner of the day with a score of 23 out of a possible 32. That shows how challenging it was.
Spot prizes were awarded according to the number on your placemat. The main prize of a lovely large hamper went to Pat herself. A deserving winner.
The Have a Go raffle was drawn with Jane Percival winning the main prize (confirmed that Jane is current with contributions).
Second prize went to me and my wife has informed me that she is looking forward to dinner out.
The 65th Anniversary cake was cut by myself and Geoff Thompson who has the honour of being the longest serving member. Well done Geoff.
Steve expanded his repetoire of puns and branched out in to full stand up comedy. There were a lot of groans, but the humour was appreciated by us all.
A big thank you to the Social Committee for organising the evening with special thanks to Pat for presenting the quiz and prize draws and to Glenice for the cake.
Our next meeting is set for the 23rd September and we welcome Doctor Mels Barton to speak to us about Kauri dieback.
Best regards
Mike Stanghan
President.
