For the first time in the last few years the club went on a vocational visit and, while the numbers were disappointing, we had an interesting and enjoyable time. We were hosted at Timberlab Solutions and I recommend that you logon to their website
www.timberlabsolutions.com to see some outstanding examples of what they do with laminated timber on projects throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands and in the Middle East. Not only are they superbly engineered but they are beautiful and something they are proud to be associated with.
The company has a strong connection to Howick Rotary. It is now managed by Grant McIntosh who will be familiar to many as the presenter of our apprentice awards. Those awards are in the name of Ken McIntosh, Grant’s dad who was a long-time member of our club. Grant joined us afterwards for a very enjoyable meal at Star café.
This coming week we have an interesting speaker Guy Slocum who, in his younger days, was an RAF fighter pilot and is going to talk about those experiences. This is an excellent opportunity to bring family, friends and prospective members.
The Howick Santa Parade is coming up on Sunday, 9th December, and has twice as many floats as last year. Sommerville Rotary are entering a float and have offered the opportunity for all local clubs to become involved. We have accepted so expect to hear more.
Our last meeting for the year will be on 18th December and will also be our AGM. There are a number of important issues to be addressed so make sure you participate.
